TAKE THE DUCK

„TAKE THE DUCK“ ist ein internationales Jazz Quartett
und wurde im Jahre 1998 von Toine Thys (B) am Altsaxophon und Daniel Nösig (A) an der Trompete gegründet. Die Rhythmusgruppe von „TAKE THE DUCK“ besteht aus Eric Surmenian (F) am Kontrabaß und Thorsten Grau (D) am Schlagzeug.

Mit dieser speziellen Besetzung (Saxophone, Trompete/Flügelhorn, Kontrabaß und Schlagzeug) hat das Quartett viele verschiedene Musikstile interpretiert und durch Eigenkompositionen zum eigenen Sound gefunden. Saxophon und Trompete ergänzen sich gegenseitig fast telepathisch und geben der kreativen Rhythmusgruppe genug Freiraum für Grooves und Ideen.

Die Musik von „TAKE THE DUCK“ schwebt irgendwo zwischen Ornette Coleman und klassischer Kammermusik, Gospel, Rubato und Swing.
Ein Konzert von Take the Duck ist immer ein Abenteuer voller Überraschungen, Grooves und Farben, Swing und einer guten Portion Energie.
Das Quartett konzertiert regelmäßig in Belgien, Holland, Österreich, Spanien und Deutschland. Der Auftritt beim Jazzfestival `Jazz al Parque´ in Bogota (Columbien) 2001 war ein großer Erfolg.

Daniel Noesig
The trumpet man. Daniel’s playing is already famous around Holland. There is a secret to keep 10.000 people quiet, or get them dancing on the next tune. He has it. Now settled in The Hague (NL), he’s working pretty much around, asked by the New Cool Collective, John Ruocco, the Logan/Hultin group, … He’s also leading his Hammond organ Quartet with Michael Erian.

Toine Thys
The other front line guy. Toine (say ‚twan‘) sings the melodies with his tubes along with Daniel. He’s a energetic and intense player, exploring the whole range of his instruments. Like Daniel, he writes for the band. Toine is also gigging around with the Niels Bjerg Quartet (www.nielsbjerg.com), the Jeppe Thejssen Group, … and is also active as a flute player in the latin scene. He is now busy with his ETREE Trio, saxophone and effects, bass and drums.

Thorsten Grau
Drums and cymbals Another „soundman“. Thorsten has a great sense of tradition, knowledge of the elders…, but also an ability of shooting some unexpected homemade grooves. Big ears! He’s a very supportive drummer. If Thorsten is not playing in The Hague or around Holland, he’s got to besomewhere on the planet with some of those who ask for his rhythms (Eric van der Westen’s Quadrant, Michael Erian, Mete Erker’s Blink, Christiana Stefansdottier)
Eric Surmenian
The latest to join the quartet. Eric the (very) Frenchman is the perfect ‚fourth mousquetaire‘ for the Duck confederation. With his bass tuned in fifth, he uses with full freedom the space between the horns and the drums. Sound, groove, E.T. chords… Eric’s singing and bowing is always a high point in a Take the Duck show! Now settled in Paris, he is very much in demand, ‚incontournable‘ european bassist (Toots Thielemans, Jasper Blom, Streams, …).
